Prior to 2005 the ABDF fielded the 1st Battalion, Antigua and Barbuda Regiment

            HQ Company

            A Rifle Company

            B Reserve Rifle Company

            C Support Company

It is now organized as marine unit, the better to fill its anti-narcotics role. Nonetheless, the battalion retains its civil tasks – Antigua and Barbuda does not have a police Special Services Unit as is common in the Carribean.

It has only a ground element, as Antigua and Barbuda has no air force. The Antigua and Barbuda Defense Force and coast guard also participated in various joint training exercises with the United States and other countries in the region. At the same time, Antigua and Barbuda agreed to permit United States facilities on Antigua to be used to train RSS personnel.  US provides ~$2-million annual for counter-narcotic operations.
